Peter Schmidt

Born in 1962, his first profession was cheesemaker. After, he has been regional officer trade union NGG (Food and Catering Union, DGB) for 27 years, in charge of dairy industries and bakeries. Since 2014 he has been a member of European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) group II workers. From 2015 to March 2018, he was the president of the EESC Permanent Study Group on sustainable food systems. Since April 2018, he is the president of the EESC Sustainable Development Observatory. Mr Schmidt is one of the three EESC members following the work of the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform, a joint initiative by the EESC and the European Commission.
