Side event 1: FIT4FOOD2030 – Sustainable Food Systems for Cities

13 June, Plovdiv, Bulgaria

Are you committed to a healthy and sustainable future for your city? The interactive session entitled “Sustainable Food Systems for Cities”, is an opportunity to explore selected Research and Innovation (R&I) initiatives within the cities involved in the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact (MUFPP).

During the event you will investigate selected initiatives and work together to identify what makes them successful. You will also have the chance to network with your peers from others European cities and to learn more about FIT4FOOD2030 and how it supports the implementation of FOOD 2030 to future-proof European food systems through R&I.

Finally, the event will celebrate the newest addition to the MUFPP, the city of Plovdiv, in the presence of the Mayor.

Side event 2: SCAR SWG FOOD SYSTEMS meeting

Date: 13th June 2018, from 9:00 to 12:00
Type of event: by invitation only/closed to public
Venue: Agricultural University of Plovdiv

The FOOD 2030 side event is organised by the SCAR SWG on Food Systems. This is an internal meeting to discuss the quantitative and qualitative mapping results and the work done on the action “Monitoring food systems”, as well as to build an action plan on the cross-cutting issue “Increasing diversity” and on the next three SCAR FS SWG priorities.


Side event 3: “Workshop on Future-Proofing Food Systems”

Venue: Agricultural University of Plovdiv

The FOOD 2030 side event entitled: “Workshop on Future-Proofing Food Systems” will be jointly organised by SCAR Food Systems SWG and JPI HDHL, FACCE-JPI and JPI OCEANS. The objective is to provide clear recommendations on how to move forward on sustainable food systems: to set the direction and to decide what the next steps are for future-proof food systems, in particular with a focus on the role of national R&I funding bodies within the context of FOOD 2030.

Maximum participants: 65 people


Side event 4: Management Board meeting of the Joint Programming Initiative “Healthy diet for an Healthy Life”

The Joint Programming Initiative “Healthy diet for an Healthy Life” (JPI HDHL) is a country-driven initiative bringing together 26 countries that collaborate on Research and Innovation Programing towards more impact of science investments in the field of food, nutrition and health of the growing societal burden of diseases that relate to diet and physical activity.

Side event 5: Workshop “Towards Open Science in Agriculture & Food”

Date: 13th June, from 13:00 to 18:00
Type of event: Open to public
Venue: Sankt Petersburg Hotel, Plovdiv

This workshop – organised by eROSA with the cooperation of JPI FACCE, the ICT-AGRI ERANET and the Food Nutrition Health RI – discusses the implications of FOOD 2030 and the European Open Science Cloud for science in agriculture and food. It describes the state-of-the-art in open science in agriculture and food and digitization in the food system more generally. The workshop provides participants with a vision and roadmap for making open science in agriculture and food happen through the launch of the e-ROSA roadmap ‘Towards Open Science in Agriculture and Food’. Finally the workshop discusses with participants the implications of the roadmap and open science for their organizations, and relevant ongoing work within JPI FACCE, the ICT-AGRI ERANET & FNH RI.

Side event 6: Food in Regions – one health, from regionality to functionality

Date 13th June 2018 (14:00 – 18:00)
Type of event: Open to the public
Venue: Sankt Petersburg Hotel, Plovdiv (BG)

This FOOD 2030 side event will showcase the regions of Trento (IT), Flanders (B), Lower Silesia (P), and Scotland (UK) all of which are delivering innovation and associate produce that represent an important contribution to regional economies. The now well recognised One Health concept will highlight how the regions are active in growing a sustainable food bioeconomy, the products from which underpin health and well-being. These successes will describe how regional foods can be employed to improve food system sustainability, help reduce the socioeconomic impact of degenerative disease, and improve regional economic viability and ecological resilience in the face of climate change.
